Tizane Single Review – He Took It All Back

With 2020 being such a hard year with national pandemic Covid-19 it’s certainly a breath of fresh air when new artists emerge.  Especially when looking at the Indie-pop genre.  I was most excited to hear the work of young 18 year old Tizane.  Described as Billie Eilish meets meets Kate Bush she has caught the attention and gained the support of BBC Radio Kent, BBC Sussex and Surrey, BBC Sounds and the likes of Mark Meets.  With a brand new song ‘He Took It All Back’ it is set to tease the senses with haunting vocals and experimental sounds that bring you back to Madonna’s Frozen era. The video also adds to the immense sound as it is inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’ and brings back the twin ghosts in life.

I very much enjoyed listening to the single and watching the video which begins with a simple guitar acoustic alongside Tizane’s hypnotic and beautiful vocals and hotel backsetting.  It soon moves into scenes representative of ‘The Shining’ complete with partner typing and becoming visibly more distant in the relationship and a child on a tricycle.  Making it unique her partner can be seen typing ‘He Took It All Back’ repetitively on the typewriter and Tizane writes ‘He Took It All Back’ on the mirror herself in red with the ‘K’ backwards representing the famous ‘Redrum/Murder’ scene from the film.  With a continuation of outstanding vocals and acoustic sound the video also depicts the Partner running towards her with an axe, the eerie twins in blue blood covered dresses and a moment where it is unclear what the outcome will be.  It is fair to say that I find the ending subjective as although she is seen to check out of the hotel and leave carrying her guitar when she looks back towards the balcony the twins, child on the tricycle and partner all wave goodbye to her as well as herself! It makes the viewer wonder if she did actually leave the hotel etc which adds to the suspense and intrigue of the video.

The vocals were indeed unique and drew you in from the very beginning.  The single has a set release date for 11/09/2020 on her own newly formed label ‘Jiggery Pokery’ with the single written and produced by Tizane herself and her mentor George Kimpton who is the former head of ‘Rough Trade’.  George who has worked with the likes of Iconic Depeche Mode, The Smiths and Kylie Minougue among many others stated ” The track is a blend of retro, soulful and lyrical vocal styling with a haunting soundscape that impresses in it’s simplicity and honesty”.  Tizane is putting the finishing touches on her debut album ‘Cherry’ which is planned for release this October for which I for one can’t wait.  You can stay up to date on future announcements via her socials.  This is one Artist certainly set to take the world by storm.
