After a terrible car accident in late 2008, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng was seriously injured and left in a coma. But after 4 long years, he has yesterday shown some progression which is proving to be very promising. He still remains semi-conscious but has started to respond to certain commands and can now move his legs when asked to which is surely something his family would be happy to hear. Despite the fact that he has shown some positive signs (more than before) he is still not able to talk back to anyone but for now, his progression brings a sign of hope into his families and fans lives.
His band mates have been truly wonderful in wanting to help raise money by hosting various benefit concerts and a sort of “personal charity”, One Love for Chi, has also made some money. It shows how fans, and maybe those who have experienced something similar, have been extremely grateful in donating and any amount seems to be much appreciated by the band and his family.
Clearly the band mates will wait for the day that they are told he can talk back and start to function a bit more as they truly miss their beloved friend. They want him to continue with his life, see his wife and children and get back to normality, but this isn’t always the case in these situations. All hope is there for Chi and Deftones fans are without doubt very dedicated in praying for this great man to have his life back.
Cheng’s family released a video clip yesterday of him raising his legs when asked to, proving how he can now respond to requests. This is clearly a sign of the good things that can be on the way. We hope and pray for his full recovery and all our thoughts go out to his family.
