The 5th date on the ‘Red Light Company’ album launch tour saw a sold out Birmingham Academy 3. There has been a lot of buzz around the tour bands that have taken the eleven date trek around the UK.

Most of the crowd were there to see the Red Light Company.Starting the night off was local snappy dressed support band Yelps! from Wolverhampton. Kicking off with an electrifying indie disco party, with the lead singer interesting to watch and took most of the show with his trendy dancing skills. Yelps! used the poppy synth with their rock n’ roll hooks to an advantage. The bands presence wasn’t all that great, and failed to get the crowd moving, yet the music has potential to get the place dancing.[7]

Next band up was the up and coming Leeds quartet ‘Grammatics’ getting their set off to a slow start but all the songs were built up to a huge climax.  Grammatics produced such a huge sound for a four piece band. Towards the end of the set the band proved they are here for the big time. Grammatics performed a solid eight song set, yet failing to connect with the crowd which let the set down[6]

Headliners Red Light Company attracted most of the sell out crowd, probably from the Leeds, Reading and Glastonbury appearances last year. The headlining band of the night casually walked out onto the stage, picked up their respective instruments and broke into a set of anthemic indie pop songs. Throughout the set the crowd could be heard returning Richard Frenneauxs chorus’. The band put so much into their performance, playing songs from their latest record ‘Fine Fascination’ the song ‘Meccano’ is a definite crowd pleaser followed by ‘Arts & Crafts’ which is the bands lead single had the crowd moving.

The performance from Red Light Company was epic and flawless! The only fault from the night being Red Light Company were on the wrong stage, you will be seeing this band in the main academy next time round.
Red Light Company’s performance songs and huge sound is made for the big stage and that’s where they’re heading.{9}
